SAD BUT TRUE STORY

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

As I write this, I am listening to Who'll Stop The Rain by Creedence Clearwater Revival. It has been raining for several days. I hope it stops for awhile so we can get the cars out. We are in between events as I type away on this so I will be talking about our last meeting, dues, Wills Treasurers Report and upcoming events.

On the dues front, we are at 65% renewals as of 2/14/00. As most of you that have been members for awhile know, we have had almost 100% renewals in previous years. We have sent out a separate letter to those that have not renewed as a final reminder. Time will tell who stays with us. The relevant point here is that the members that come out to events and participate are still among us.

Talking about participation; Our last meeting in San Leandro was standing room only with 40 plus in attendance! We had several members attend their first meeting ever and many that had not been to one in many moons. It was a really great meeting. We agreed to have several more meetings there this year. All of our meetings are at a Harrys Hof Brau for the remainder of this year. 1/2 in Redwood City and 1/2 in San Leandro. Check out our meeting schedule on our website for the schedule. Many thanks to all of you that came out. T shirt sales were fantastic and many people took the opportunity to renew their dues. The number of people stepping up to the plate to help put on our 5th Anniv. event with Jim Wangers was huge. We will dedicate our October meeting to working on this. All the spots for March GGuys GGG indoor display were filled. Thank you. The forms were off to GGuys the next day. You will receive your packets in the mail. Our new website was greatly received by all. I urge all of you to visit it often and to use it!!! A club calendar featuring members cars was proposed. Anybody with ideas on this please let me know.

We really did get Will Valle's Treasurers Report in this issue. As this is our first one, we will learn as we go. Once again our plans are to do a yearly report. This will better help us budget club events and give all of you a feel for where our $ are going. Many thanks to Will for putting this together for us.

By the time you receive this, our next event is more than likely gonna be the March 11th Pyramid Brewery Tour. Watch for details from event coordinator Jim Lent on this. Should be a great time.

For the March GGuys show, let us meet across the street from the fairgrounds at 7 a.m. We will leave for the show at 7:15. GGG will have a designated area outside the building where our inside display will be. Any of you planning to attend that are not part of the indoor group, please let me know if you would like to help out on Sat. morning. Those of us inside will have brought our cars on Friday and will not need to be there that early. If any of you want to help, let me know. We will discuss both of these events in greater detail at our March 1st meeting in Redwood City at Harrys! In closing, hope the rain stops so that I can see you in the fast lane!!!!!!!!

Bye for now; JOHN

SAD, BUT TRUE STORY FROM GGGOATS MEMBER DAVE DEGERE

Most people who have done a ground up restoration worry about having there car out in the rain, out in a parking lot, out in the hot sun, out period !

After putting zillions of hours and bucks into your car you worry about everything until it's safe at home in the garage. I have news for you , its not even safe there! Several months ago I was relaxing at home around 9:30 PM when the whole house shook and it sounded like a freight train was coming through the place. I ran outside and there to my surprise was a small truck hanging over my retaining wall half way into the neighbors driveway. The driver was spinning his wheels in a frantic attempt to get away. I ran in to get the portable phone, ran back out and tried to dial 911 but found my computer had the line tied up. I ran in and turned it off and got 911, but by that time the guy had bailed.

Fortunately he left his truck and I.D. and the police found him about 10 minutes later. He wiped out 30' of my garage and did a number on the Goat. The moral is "Your car is not even safe at home locked up in the garage"

So don't worry so much just drive it!

(Note from the Editor)

REMEMBER, YOUR GTO IS A MUSCLE CAR AND IS VERY SIMILAR TO YOUR MUSCLES - IF YOU DON'T EXERCISE THEM, THEY WITHER AND DIE. DON'T LET YOUR MUSCLE CAR WITHER. TAKE IT OUT FREQUENTLY AND GIVE IT THE EXERCISE IT NEEDS!!
