PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE NEW MEMBERS
Howdy Folks,
Hello Everyone,
Hard to believe that we are coming up on the 4th of July. Time just seems to be flying by.
Guess we should start thinking about Xmas (Just kidding). June 21st had us at Tilden Park for our annual Summer Picnic. Please see Jim Lent’s event recap for details. Am sure that everyone had a great time. This was the first time I was unable to attend this event. June for me with GGuys and a trip to Oregon to spend some time with my Dad has been a total blur…………………………
GGuys again this year went quite well. We had a record turnout for both days. 73 cars on Saturday and close to 40 on Sunday. Thank You to Jim Lent and John Phillips for co-chairing the event with me and to everyone else that helped out with this event. Larry and Curtis Smith of Smith Jewelers this year donated both a GGG logo watch and a string of pearls for the raffle Grand Prizes. Thank You very much. A couple of areas of concern did come up this year and we will put aside some time at our September 3rd meeting at Harry’s in San Leandro to discuss them. Those of you that have made your concerns known to me, please be prepared to discuss them then.
Coming up in July, Warm Summer Daze is on the 12th and 13th in Petaluma and on the 26th, we will be in Alameda at the USS Hornet for a special event that will include a display of military vehicles. Both events should be fun and are covered in this newsletter.
Looking forward to August, our cruise date will be on Sunday the 17th. Please note that this is a new date. Details are in this newsletter. Mark your calendars now…………….
See ya in the fast lane……………………..
John

RECIPE CORNER
Hi Everyone,
Happy summer at last! Hope you are all out enjoying the nice weather.
Here is a brownie recipe I made for John. He wanted a brownie that was a little gooey. He and our neighbors say this one is the best so far. Watch the baking. Be sure not to over bake. Tooth pic will not come out clean, but the brownie should start to pull away from the side of the pan. No frosting needed, but John says make sure you ‘Got Milk’ poured and ready.
These store very well in the freezer too!
Enjoy,
Marsha
Brownies
Ingredients:
6 Tablespoons unsalted butter
3 oz unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped
3 oz semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla or chocolate extract
2 large eggs
1/4 cup flour
2/3 cup toasted then coarsely chopped walnut or pecan pieces (optional)
Preheat oven to 325 F. Position a rack on the lower third of the oven.
Line an 8” square pan with parchment paper to easily lift whole cake out for cutting when cooled. Melt the butter with the chocolate in the top of a double boiler or in a heavy saucepan. Stir frequently until the mixture is melted and smooth. Remove from heat and add sugars, salt and vanilla. Stir well, then, add eggs one at a time. Stir each egg well to fully incorporate before adding next. Stir in flour, mixing until batter is smooth and glossy and comes away from the sides of the pan. This takes about a minute. Stir in nuts. Poor batter into prepared pan.Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until they just start to pull away from the sides of the pan. Cool on wire rack at least 1 hour before removing from pan. Lift out using parchment edges and place on cutting board. Cut into 16 squares. These are very rich so small brownies are satisfying. Stores well in airtight container for 2-3 days, or freeze.
