PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Happy Holidays,

Wow, what a week for weather! Hopefully none of us had any major storm related property damage. Nice to know that weather is now pretty much out of here. Our Toys for Tots event as you know was canceled for weather related reasons. Turned out to be the right thing to do. Thanks to our club VP Russ Louthian for going to 4th Ave Bowl Saturday morning in case some of us didn’t get the e mail and were unaware the event had been canceled. As a result of this, there is nothing new with club business.

Let’s recap a bit. Treasurer Will Valle is now accepting renewals for 2003 GGG dues, mail to 243 Wicklow in So. S.F., 94080. Please see the information on renewals in this newsletter. Please give us your GTOAA # if you are a member. Our next meeting is Saturday Jan 11th at Boscoe’s in Sunol, 11 to 2ish. We have the back room reserved and lunch can be ordered off their menu with no restrictions. We will be choosing events for 2003. See the list of proposed events in the last newsletter and feel free to take that opportunity to suggest any new ones. In addition, lets plan on doing some work on Wangers 3. As we speak, the event is to be held at Marina Pontiac GMC in San Leandro. GGG member and dealership owner Mark Kane will be in attendance to field any questions. Let’s see if we can get the lions share of this event planned at this meeting. If any members have been looking at alternate locations for this event, we need to know now. We also need to decide how we want to participate as a club for Warm Summer Daze as described in last month’s newsletter. This is THE planning meeting for next year. Hope to see a record turnout. 2003 looks to be another outstanding year………thanks to all of you.

As The Beach Boys said……………

Let’s Do It Again

We are now taking nominations for all club board positions. As I write this Al Harris has been nominated, and has accepted the nomination for Treasurer. Feel free to nominate a fellow member at the Jan meeting for any position. If elections are going to be required, they will take place at our Feb. meeting at Harry’s in San Leandro. The meeting locations and dates have been finalized for 2003. A stand alone December meeting is scheduled as well for ease in planning for 2004.

I ask that we make some changes in how we distribute shirts. Since we have way more than can easily fit in a car, I plan to only bring a few to each event. On too many occasions, as many of you know and have kidded me about ( and I deserved the kidding ! ) I have ended up bringing the Jeep as a transport vehicle and have missed out on bringing my GTO. Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding on this subject.

That covers it for now. Marsha and I would like to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas along with a Happy New Year…………….and

See Ya In The Fast Lane ( once it dries out !!!!!! )

John

RECIPE CORNER

Time for Santa! Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas with their families and friends. Here is a special little cake that takes some time, but is so colorful and yummy...especially for those of you who love gumdrops!

Happy Holidays!

Marsha

Gum Drop Fruit Cake

1 lb. raisins
1 lb. gumdrops (NO BLACK)
1 1/2 cups applesauce
2 eggs
1 tablespoon baking soda dissolved in a little cool water
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
4 cups flour
1 cup butter
2 cups granulated sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla

In one bowl: Mix gum drops and raisins with some of the flour, just to coat. About a cup. In a larger bowl: Cream butter and sugar together, then add eggs and vanilla until well mixed. Add remaining flour and apple sauce and soda mixture. Mix till well combined, then add raisin gumdrop mixture and nuts. Mix till evenly dispersed, then divide between 3 greased and floured loaf pans. Bake at 300 degree oven for 1 1/2 hours. Test with toothpick for doneness. Cool on rack for 15 minutes then turn out and finish cooling.

Enjoy!
