PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Here is the latest......................Hi Folks,

Snow in San Francisco ? That is what the news is saying this morning !! Our first club event of the year at The Hiller Air Museum came together nicely last Saturday, Jan 26th. Cold and rainy day was perfect for an indoor event. Thirty or so of us learned a lot about the early days of aviation during our docent lead tour. Most interesting to me were the WWII F4 Wildcat fighter that was fully restored and operational along with the 737 and 747 cockpit displays. Fun stuff.

Our first meeting of the new year is on Wednesday Feb. 6th at Harry's in Redwood City. Please join us as we have a lot of things to talk about, updated information on several events, etc. See ya there !

Full details on our Feb. 15th event at SGI and our (New) March 16th Gigunda Tank Tour event in this newsletter. Both of these events present a great opportunity for you to experience something a little different and both should be a lot of fun and are rain or shine events. We will return to the USS Hornet next year.

Looks like another fun year for Golden Gate Goats. The events are in place and planning is coming along nicely. Club Treasurer Will Valle reports that we are currently at 60% renewals and 145 members and that we are above 25% membership in GTOAA. Those of you that have not yet remitted your dues, please do so at your earliest convenience and please provide us with your GTOAA membership # if you are a member of GTOAA.

Let me sign off with my first Pep Talk of the new year which is aimed at those of you that have not chosen to become actively involved in YOUR club. We fully realize that everyone is very busy and has limited free time. Thanks to the hard work of many different folks, you have a truly fantastic opportunity to meet new people, make new friends and live the experience of being involved with people that share your love of the ORIGINAL MUSCLE CAR (and the BEST !!!) - the PONTIAC GTO !!!!! It just doesn't get any better than this and you owe it to yourselves to come out and join in the fun. Let me again mention that your car does not need to be perfect ! Bring it on out !!!!!!!

That's it for now. Hope to see many of you at our Feb. 6th meeting

John

VISIT TO THE SGI REALITY CENTER

in Mountain View

Golden Gate Goats Club Event for February 2002

Friday February 15th ¨ 7:00 – 8:30 PM

Limited Seating – Only 30 reservations can be accepted. Sign up at the Feb. 6, Club meeting

Private Demo for the Golden Gate Goats

In a nutshell, we’re getting a special demonstration of the absolutely latest capabilities in virtual reality, on 160-degree spherical display.

This isn’t a Disneyland ride, but it evidently comes close.  SGI uses their Reality Center to give presentations to their clients, so what we’re going to see is serious leading-edge stuff.

About SGI

Dazzling special effects in major motion pictures from Jurassic Park and Terminator to the Pearl Harbor and Lord of the Rings, all relied on powerful graphic workstations made by SGI.  But SGI products are also used for automotive and aircraft design, pharmaceutical research, oil exploration and development of improved weather forecasting methods (and that’s just the stuff we’re allowed to know about).

Reality Center, as described at www.sgi.com/realitycenter

There's no better way for teams of technical and creative professionals to engage in interactive, real-time engineering and design review, data analysis, critical training, presentation, or command-and-control operations. The SGI Reality Center facility delivers the highest levels of realism, image quality, and performance available today. You and your colleagues are immersed in your virtual environments, so you can explore, understand, and communicate about your data in ways not possible in the physical world.

May You Have Proper Expectations

SGI’s presentations are done in a theatre setting.  About 10% of the time, guests wear special glasses, but there’s no body suits!

Also, because SGI works on some pretty secret government stuff, we must give permission to let them do a name check.  It’s just a formality, and they don’t need anything other than first & last name.

Limited Seating – Please Reserve by January 20th

We got SGI to exceed their standard seating capacity, so here’s the deal: the first 30 GGG members and guests to be registered will get theatre seating.  SGI will try to find chairs for up to 10 more people, but some may have to stand.

For Appetizers

Check out SGI’s games and freeware at their web site.  Just click the “Serious Fun” tab at the top-right.
