PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Greetings Folks,

As luck would have it, sky’s did clear for the last GGuys show of the year, at least for Saturday and the Stones concerts. Hope those of you that were able to go enjoyed yourselves. Quite a storm that turned out to be, hopefully none of us had any serious property damage. It took Marsha and I the better part of the weekend to clean up the yard and by the way she asks; “Honey, did you know the Half Yearly Women’s Sale is this weekend at Nordstrom's?”

After hearing several members describing the time they had, it sound’s like the Beer Belly Tour was quite a hit. Having the Clydesdale’s at Budweiser was a nice plus. Thank You to Al & Pam Harris for putting the event together. I had no idea that making a Jelly Belly was such a high tech operation…..See full event recap herein…………… Quite likely we will return in 2003.

Thanks to all of you that were able to attend our November club meeting. Barb’s minutes included herein nicely recap the meeting. Always a lot of club business to conduct this time of year. Allow me to touch on the high points here. We began work on our 2003 event schedule by brainstorming on possible things to do, all of which are in Barb’s meeting minutes for your review. Our December meeting is going to take place during the Toy’s for Tot’s event on the 14th. Please note that this meeting has been downsized as the event is closer to the Xmas Holiday than in previous years and we didn’t want to chance a low turnout as this meeting determines GGG’s direction for next year.

We are going to be having a special meeting on Saturday Jan 11th at an East Bay location to be determined. John Phillips is trying to put it together at Bosco’s in Sunol. Between now and then, please e mail me any event ideas you may have at MITYGTO@aol.com and I will start a list. You can bring them up at our December meeting as well. The January meeting is going to be extremely important so please mark your calendars now for January 11th.

Also on the club business list are any changes to your Board that you would like to make. Nominations for all positions (including Newsletter Editor) are now being accepted through our January 11th meeting. Best way to nominate a fellow member is at a meeting. As you know, original club Treasurer Will Valle has chosen to step down at year end. Al Harris has accepted a nomination for club Treasurer. If you have been thinking about getting involved in running your club or getting someone else involved, let us know now please. The rest of your current Board Members reserve their option to run for re election.

As many of you may recall, I said last year that this year would be my last as your club President. If the club is ready for this to take place, I am ready as well. Nominations will let us know…….Elections to take place at our February meeting, date TBA at Harry’s in San Leandro. Yes, 2003 is going to start off with 2 East Bay back to back meetings.

Also discussed was our current dues policy. It was decided that it is good as is and no changes will be made. $30 to renew and $35 to join, yearly. Will Valle has begun accepting dues payments; please remit to him at 243 Wicklow Drive in South San Francisco, Ca. 94080
Thanks for your prompt attention to this matter………………………………

This brings everything nicely up to date for you. Please join us at our next GGG event on December 14th for Toys for Tots. FYI, next year we are leaning towards participating in a local Holiday Parade for our December event. Marsha nad I would like to wish all GGG members and their families a HAPPY THANKSGIVING.
See ya in the fast lane,

John

UPCOMING EVENTS

Golden Gate Goats Third Annual Toys for Tots Drive

Saturday Morning / December 14, 2002

Here’s the kind of holiday event you’ve been looking for - - a simple, rewarding event that takes little time and even less effort and is guaranteed to make you feel good!

Holiday Bonus Brief December Club Meeting
Plus Breakfast and Bowling at The4th Street Bowl San Jose

That’s right, we will be holding a brief December club meeting starting at about 10:30AM at the 4th Street Bowl in San Jose. Those who are closer to San Jose are encouraged to meet earlier for breakfast at the Bowl’s restaurant, known for its great food and friendly service. Plus there will be plenty of FREE PARKING in the paved lot to display our cars.

What We Need to Do

This event takes place right in the middle of the Holiday Season, so we have done all we can to make it simple, easy and fun.

Bring your family and friends in your car along with one new toy to donate per car occupant. If you’re alone, no problem, just bring one new toy and you are in the event. If you have five in the car, each person must have one new toy to donate. Yes, you can bring more that one toy per person if you wish.

Toys must be new (not something you took from your cousin). DO NOT WRAP the toys; just leave them in their box/container.

If you hate to shop, you can donate cash in the form of a check made payable to Toys for Tots.

That’s it. No need to RSVP, you can make up your mind at the last minute to join us. We want as many member cars as possible to take part. But, if your car just can’t make it, don’t let that stop you. Bring your toy to donate (or your check) and meet us at the restaurant. Then hitch a ride with one of the club members to the donation stand and you too can get the great feeling that comes from taking part in a good cause and knowing you did your part to help. The folks at 4th Street are providing us with a meeting room where we will hold our December Club meeting. After that, we will depart as a group for the ceremony at about Noon (see map & directions).

The round trip from the restaurant to the ceremony stand and back will be a nice easy cruise through the heart of San Jose, sort of a mini-parade. So feel free to decorate your car in the Holiday Spirit!

Happy Holidays already! Here is a simple and fun recipe. A little something different. One of Johns Mom's. She always made these and
brought them along to family gatherings during the holidays. They always disappeared quickly.
Hope you enjoy!
Marsha

Italian Wandas

2 cups flour
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
6 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour and baking powder.

Beat eggs till fluffy, then add sugar, oil and vanilla. Beat well, then
add slowly to flour mixture and mix until fully incorporated. Turn dough
out onto floured board. Roll out to qtr inch thickness, and cut into
about half inch wide by 4-5 inch long strips. Tie strips into bows. Fry
bows in deep hot vegetable oil, until golden brown. Drain on paper
towel, then sprinkle while hot with powdered sugar. Can eat as soon as
cool enough or they will keep in an air tight container for a few days.
