PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE NEW MEMBERS
Greetings Everyone,
Well, here we are going into August and HAN is right around the corner. Last Sunday was our Wine Cruise hosted by Ken Frank and Leroy & Judy Anderson. Marsha and I missed not being able to join in what we are sure was another fantastic event. Weather looked mighty fine which always helps out. Looking forward to hearing all about it.
Will cover a variety of club business here. Club Treasurer Will Valle has his Treasurers Report for the first half of the year ready for your review. We remain financially strong thanks in a large part to your continued support. We have decided to cancel the September Begonia Festival event due to secured parking being prohibitively expensive. They were looking for an $800 guarantee for just 5 hours parking of 35 cars. Given the date change to Labor Day weekend and AWAY from Cherry's weekend, it just didn’t look promising.
Time once again to assign more Car Of the Month articles to fill the pipeline for future newsletters. For September….Ed Janas, Mark Kane and Mike, Barbara and Apryl Winston. For October…Jack Fabrique, Woodrow Means and Karl Vorsatz. Any questions on what Jim Lent needs for the newsletter, please contact him.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to share your GTO experiences with your fellow members. Each car has a story for sure….. Meeting rounds will start up once again on Wednesday, Sept. 4th in Redwood City at Harry's. Please mark your calendar. This meeting will have plenty of time to discuss any club business YOU choose.
August 17th has us returning to Bay Meadows for Day At The Races II. Another unique and fun time in store for you. Full details provided herein. Well folks, that pretty much brings us through the month of August.
See ya in the fast lane………
John

GOLDEN GATE GOATS UPCOMING EVENTS
GOLDEN GATE GOATS - - -
ANOTHER DAY AT THE RACES!
SATURDAY, AUGUST 17, 2002
BAY MEADOWS RACECOURSE - SAN MATEO
SPEND ANOTHER DAY AT THE RACES!
BAY MEADOWS RACECOURSE / SAN MATEO
SATURDAY, AUGUST 17, 2002 / BET YOU'LL LIKE THIS EVENT - -
On Saturday, we will meet at 10AM just inside the main gate of the track (see map). Tickets will be given out at this location so we have an accurate count and so people who decide to show up at the last minute will not be left out. PROCRASTINATORS ARE WELCOME! YOU CAN PAY WHEN YOU ARRIVE ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT AS LONG AS YOU GET THERE BEFORE 10:30AM!
At 10:30AM SHARP, we will cruise into Bay Meadows through a special tunnel and out on to the Infield Lawn. There we will park our cars so they are on display facing and in full view of the Grand Stand. Directly behind where we park is our private patio pavilion. The pavilion is on the lawn near the pond, and offers covered seating and tables for 50+ folks, complete with two closed circuit televisions to give us an even closer view of the races.
From 11:30AM to 1PM we visit the Barbeque pavilion just to the left of where we park. Here we get to do what we do best - - EAT! Our BBQ Buffet includes hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, BBQ chicken, baked beans, whole kernel corn, potato salad, soft drinks and brownies! Grab what you want, plunk down on a section of lawn or go back to our pavilion and dig in! Then go back for more.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
To make this event one you will not want to miss- - Retired jockey Art Lobato will be our personal guide to Bay Meadows. Mr. Lobato will join us to give us tips on how to read the racing program and how to place bets. For those who feel like making a bet, the betting station is right in front of where we park, no lines, no hassles. Races start at 1:30PM and go to about 5:30PM. During that time, we will be able to take tours of the paddock area. IMPORTANT NOTE TO REMEMBER:
WE CAN NOT LEAVE OUR AREA UNTIL THE LAST RACE ENDS,
SO PLAN ON NOT DEPARTING UNTIL ABOUT 6PM!
THE GOAT RACE
One final item. We get to have one of the races named by or for our club and have a picture taken in the Winner Circle. But since they don't race real goats, and won't let our cars on the track, they said they would do the next best thing - - A MULE RACE! That's right a bunch of asses running around the track, probably not all in the same direction - - sounds like a perfect Club Event to me!
BE TREATED LIKE ROYALTY
FOR LESS THAN THE COST OF A TANK OF GAS!
Our cost is only $21 per person (guests 17 and under are just $10), and it includes: - racecourse admission - all you can eat BBQ buffet - gratuity - tax - racing program - private pavilion seating - infield lawn parking.
PLEASE HAVE CORRECT CHANGE OR A CHECK MADE PAYABLE TO GOLDEN GATE GOATS.

GOLDEN GATE GOATS BIRTHDAY South Bay Discovery Poker Run - Sat. Oct. 5, 2002
O
n your mark, get set for a poker run like no run you have ever been on before! If you are like most folks who’ve been on poker runs at Cherry’s or HAN, you start to lose interest shortly after you pick your third card and realize you have absolutely no hope of winning anything. WELL NOT THIS TIME!
We’ve put an end to all that with this run because EVERY car entered gets a prize at EVERY STOP! That’s right, from registration to the five discovery stops, to the final drop off, a prize for every car at every stop - - seven goodie bags per car in all!
Plus, if you are lucky enough to have one of the winning hands, we have some great prizes for you. More on that later.
How much? In honor of our 6th Anniversary, just $6 per poker hand, plus a donation to the Santa Clara County Humane Society. Donations can range from a couple of cans of Alpo to a new cat collar (with bell, of course), to used blankets and towels. If you can’t decide on what donation to bring (or just forget), cash and checks are always greatly appreciated.
The run is designed to be an enjoyable drive throughout the South Bay and Silicon Valley. You’ll be on city streets to get those all-important thumbs up from the general public as you cruise by in your pride and joy. You’ll be on freeways so you can open her up and hear that big V8 rumble. And, you’ll be on some scenic roads so you can enjoy the beautiful autumn colors. Remember that this is not a race. So, if you want to stop and smell the flowers or take some pictures or learn more about one of the stops, feel free to go at your own pace - - as long as you complete the run by 3:00 PM.
Along the way you will visit unique locations, many undiscovered even by folks who live right here in the South Bay. We’ve selected the sites you’ll visit with the idea that once you’ve been there you’ll want to return on your own at a later date. What’s more each site has prepared a special get acquainted goodie bag for each car in our run.
No need to pay or register in advance. For now, just mark Saturday, October 5, 2002 on your calendar and meet us at 4th Street Bowl in San Jose for registration. JUST $6 + A DONATION TO THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY per poker hand.
EVENT SCHEDULE
7:30 - 9:30 Breakfast
8:30 - 10:00 Registration Open
9:00 - First cars allowed to depart on run
3:00 - Discovery Run officially concludes
Poker hand winners will be telephoned and announced in the November Club Newsletter as well as on the Club Web site. Our goal, create an enjoyable driving event, showcase unique South Bay locations, and HAVE LOTS OF FUN!
RECIPE CORNER
Hi All,
Just in time for Cherries Jubilee! Here is a recipe provided by Al & Julie Blake. From what I hear, this was a very big hit on the party circuit. Before trying this one though, make sure your Goat is safely corralled. Aptly and appropriately
named. It must be the Aftershock that puts the extra punch into this..He, he, he. Enjoy responsibly. < :*)
Thanks Al and Julie and Jeannie too
for helping to get this one out for all to enjoy.Marsha
